Testosterone therapy and its benefits
6 reading_minutes
At Momentum Clinic, we understand that andropause - often referred to as the aging male syndrome - is not just an inevitable part of aging, but a challenge that can be effectively managed. Reduced testosterone levels affect not only physical fitness, but also mental well-being, libido and overall vitality. With our expert care, we can alleviate the symptoms of andropause and restore the balance that is the foundation of a fulfilling life.

What is testosterone and why is it important?
Testosterone is a key hormone that plays a significant role in the male body. It is primarily known as a sex hormone, but its influence extends much further. It affects reproductive function, metabolism, muscle growth, bone density, and also psychological well-being. Testosterone is produced primarily in the testes, its production is controlled by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, and is further metabolized into the more potent androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT) or estrogens.

Myths and facts about testosterone
Testosterone deficiency can have serious health consequences. Because of its wide involvement in metabolism, testosterone is one of the most debated hormones, around which there are many myths and misconceptions. These often affect the perception of its role in the body and the approach to its treatment.
1. Myth
Testosterone is all about virility and muscles.
Fact: Testosterone, known as the "male hormone", affects not only muscle and sexual function, but also metabolism, psyche, cognition, bone and heart health. In smaller amounts, it is also important for women.
2. Myth
Testosterone causes aggression
Fact: Studies show that testosterone is more likely to promote self-esteem and positive social behavior. Aggression is more often associated with steroid abuse, not natural or medically administered testosterone levels.
3. Myth
Testosterone therapy is dangerous
Fact: Properly managed therapy is safe and can significantly improve quality of life. Fears of a negative effect on cardiovascular health have been refuted in modern studies showing that therapy can reduce the risk of heart disease. Risks only occur with inappropriate use without medical supervision.
4. Myth
Testosterone promotes prostate cancer
Fact: Studies have not shown a direct link between TTh and prostate cancer. On the contrary, men with low testosterone levels may be at higher risk for more complicated forms of the disease.
5. Myth
Low testosterone is just part of aging, nothing can be done about it
Fact: this condition can be effectively treated with therapy to restore hormone balance and improve vitality, mood and overall health.
Dispelling these myths is the key to better understanding the role of testosterone in the body.

TRAVERSE STUDY: Safety and efficacy of testosterone therapy
The TRAVERSE*study (2023) was designed as a pivotal trial to assess the safety and efficacy of Testosterone Therapy (TTh). More than 5,000 men with low testosterone levels and at risk of cardiovascular disease were enrolled in the study.
The main aim was to assess whether testosterone therapy increases the risk of major cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction, stroke or cardiovascular death. The results showed that testosterone therapy was not associated with a higher risk of these events compared with placebo.
The study further confirmed other benefits of testosterone therapy:
Reduced risk of conversion from prediabetes to diabetes
Improving glycemic control
Improving metabolic profile
Improvement in muscle strength, physical fitness and mental well-being
Significant improvement in sexual function and quality of life.
The TRAVERSE study provided key evidence on the safety and benefits of TTh in men. In addition to confirming cardiovascular safety, it highlighted significant metabolic and quality benefits of this treatment, which may influence future approaches to the care of men with low testosterone and increased cardiovascular risk.
